2009 Carneros Pinot Noir

t

he Carneros Pinot Noir comes from vineyards located in the heart of the Carneros Appellation where wind and fog from the San Pablo Bay cool the vines and allows the grapes a longer growing season. Buena Vista's founder, the Count of Buena Vista, identified the Carneros climate and soil as the optimal location for quality grapes. This Carneros Pinot Noir is a well-balanced and delicious representation of of the noble Pinot Noir varietal.

Aromatic notes of black cherry and cranberry rise subtly out of the glass and evolve into scents of rose hips and eucalyptus. On the palate, the tannins are lightened by a nice acidity that makes this a very balanced wine.

The Carneros Pinot Noir grapes were handpicked at night and hand-sorted twiced before being gently destemmed. Each lot was cold soaked for a minimum of five days to maximize color and flavor extraction. The must was then fermented in small open-top fermentors to broaden the texture and complexity of the wine. After an average of 14 days on the skins, the wine was pressed gently and aged for eight months in 33% new French oak, with the balance in one to two-year-old barrels.

This wine would pair well with grilled quail.
